Let’s assume they aren’t a great tyre, which they are, you would buy them just on tread pattern alone. One of the sexiest and most recognisable R spec tyres in the world, the Toyo Proxes R888 offer excellent levels of grip in the dry. Although they are approved for road use it seems a shame to waste them driving down to the shops to buy milk for your mother – especially in winter when you can’t get them warm enough.
They are very loud and the wear rates mean your pockets will be very light but that’s not really a bad thing since you’ll go even faster. With a hard sidewall and near slick shoulders this is one serious bit of rubber. In case you needed more of an indication that these tyres are barely streetable, read this refreshingly honest note from Toyo themselves:
The Proxes R888 is legal for use on public roads in Australia but is designed for motor sport applications (including road / tarmac rallies). Compared to street radials, Toyo motor sport tyres will have comparatively faster wear rates and increased ride harshness.
