We’ve all seen the plastic coke bottle oil catch cans made in the driveway. We’ve all envied them and wished we could display that level of bling. If your DIY expertise is lacking but your credit card swipe is up to scratch, you need to get yourself some 42 Draft Designs oil catch can action. Not only do these bad boys look the part, they also do what they’re designed to with some extra features you don’t see in your regular catch cans.
The goal of an oil catch can is simple. It needs to trap the oil vapours before it reaches your intake system where it can cause problems. The 42 Draft Designs catch cans take it a step further and offer a dip stick to check your accumulated oil level, a drain plug, 4 filter screens to collect the oil, vertical and horizontal mounting plates and a 2 piece design allowing you to face the hose joints in one of 6 directions giving you a truly universal fit.
Their top of the range catch can, called the Ultimate Oil Catch Can, retails for US$235, or roughly 150 Coke bottles. I know that it’s a bit pricey but if you stop buying Coke bottles for the next year it will pay itself off and not only will you help your car live longer, you too will enjoy a healthier life. That’s a win win you can’t argue with.
If your addiction to sugar is such that you can’t part with Coke, you can surely afford their Stealth Oil Catch Can at US$115. It doesn’t have a dip stick and it’s not a 2 piece design but it still has the same internal 4 filter screens and a drain plug along with a smart T shaped vertical and horizontal mounting bracket that is welded on.
Both models come in a a gorgeous brushed stainless steel finish or a black powder coated finish which I think looks amazing. The Ultimate model with the stainless top and black canister and outlets is my pick of the lot and it’s the one going in my car.
