Is there anything sexier than a track version of the iconic RX-7? I shall think not!
From Le Mans to WRC, Group B to BTCC, D1 and all the way to your local track day, the Mazda RX-7 has been a staple for the motorsport enthusiast since its inception in 1978. Winning numerous awards, the coveted Playboy car of the year included, and making many top lists while championing the rotary Wankel engine in an age where all manufacturers have abandoned it. Forgetting all that though, it has appeared in the most important movie of our time – the all time classic ‘The Fast and the Furious‘, where it was driven by the coolest creature of them all, Vin Diesel. All this of course was after the classic anime ‘Initial D’ featured two very cool RX-7′s, the FC and FD of the Takahashi brothers.
With an important past, I’m happy to see that Mazda will continue to carry the torch for the rotary with a new RX-7 in 2011. If it looks and performs as good as the FD, it’s sure to be a hit.
